While it may seem like 2020 just started, we’re almost through May and summer is right around the corner. With summer comes higher temperatures outside, which means your home electrical and HVAC systems working harder to keep you cool inside. There are a few basic steps that you can take now, before the temperatures start rising, to ensure your home is in tip-top shape and will keep you cool and your electrical bills down all summer long.

-Make sure your AC is working properly – This may seem like a pretty obvious thing, but it often goes overlooked until it is too late. Turn on your air conditioning early in the season to make sure it is functioning properly and efficiently. If it isn’t, or if it’s just been a while since a check-up, give your local HVAC tech a call and have them (and their Klein Tools) come take a look to get your set for summer.

If you’ve been following us on social media over the last few weeks, you’ve probably noticed our new Stay Fit series, where we offer up tips on how to stay in job-ready shape if your social distancing routine includes staying at home. While this series offers up specific exercises you can do to mimic the muscles you would regularly be working on the jobsite, there are many other things you can easily do to make sure you’re staying both mentally and physically healthy during this time. While some of these may seem like obvious tips, it can be helpful to have a reminder of the simple things we can do to stay on track.

This Saturday, April 18, is National Lineman Appreciation Day. Having been a career field for well over 100 years now, it’s only fitting that the over 115,000 lineworkers in the US have a day to celebrate the hard work they put in for the estimated 155,000,000 electrical customers across the country.

This celebration of the men and women who keep our power up and running has been around for several years now. On April 10, 2013, US Senate Resolution 95 set April 18 as National Lineman Appreciation Day. This was following 2012’s Hurricane Sandy, which affected 24 states across the US, downing power lines and causing some $65 billion in damage along the way. It was after this tragedy that line crews across the country stepped up in droves to help get the country running again, rebuilding the country’s power systems from the ground-up. This dedication to keeping our country moving forward is what inspired the 113^th Congress to pass the bill giving us a national holiday to celebrate these invaluable professionals.
