As with any product, hand tools have to go through a long process of development before they make it into the hands of trade professionals. From the initial concept all the way through to when tools are on shelves for purchase, there are dozens of steps involved to make a tool idea into a tool in-hand.

One of the most important steps in development for Klein Tools is product testing.

Klein Tools uses two main methods of product testing. The first method is in-house testing. As a product is being developed and manufactured, our engineers put it through a rigorous process that includes drop testing, pressure testing, and seeing how many times said tool can hit or cut something before the product wears out. They do this through manual use so that they can make sure the in-hand fit is right, as well as using specialized machines to perform these actions thousands of times, repeatedly. Both our Lincolnshire, Illinois, facility and our state-of-the-art manufacturing headquarters in Mansfield, Texas, have product testing labs where engineers spend hours upon hours with each new tool in development, making sure they can stand up to the repetitive use that tradespeople need them to.

As population rates continue to rise, and the boom in both residential and commercial construction continues, the need for more trained HVAC professionals across the country is also rapidly growing. Previously we’ve looked at the best cities for electricians, taking into account both average salaries and availability of jobs. As we move into the new year, many people have taken part in the time-honored tradition of setting New Year’s resolutions. While it is estimated that around 80 percent of people break their New Year’s resolutions within the first month and a half of a new year, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t value in setting them and trying to make improvements to your own habits.

Going into 2020, there are several things you can resolve to do that both will help improve the electrical safety in your home, as well as reduce your overall electrical costs.

As far as safety goes, make sure that you’ve done a thorough inspection of your home. Repair or replace any appliances or faulty wiring and make sure alarms are working with new batteries. It’s important to make sure all your breakers and fuses are labeled properly so that you can identify and address any tripped circuits quickly and conveniently.

With the costs of college rising exponentially over the last decade, many students are choosing to pursue trade schools rather than traditional four-year universities. While enrollment rates in colleges have risen this century, so have those for trade schools, at almost equal rates. Trade schools are often much more affordable in terms of tuition and time commitments, and give students a set of skills that are always in need, therefore making the process of finding post-graduation employment much quicker.

Given all these benefits, a trade school education opens up a world of opportunity to students, and it can be overwhelming to decide where would be the most advantageous place to pursue their career. Below we look at some of the best cities for electricians, and what is drawing skilled tradespeople there.

Many things go into what would make a city more desirable for an electrician, including a higher starting salary, higher average salary and an abundance of open job positions. With

As the holidays approach, many tradespeople will be traveling around the country, visiting friends and family to celebrate. While most people plan ahead for packing things like socks, underwear and toiletries, one thing that might not cross your mind until it’s too late: how do you pack your tools? You never know when or where a job could pop up, plus it’s almost inevitable that when you get home your family will have something they need you to work on.

Let’s look at flying first. According to the Transportation Security Administration’s website, you are allowed to pack tools in your carry-on bag, as long as they are not power tools and are 7 inches or shorter when fully assembled. So if you have a few small tools, like screwdrivers, wrenches or pliers, you can easily toss them in your carry-on. The Tradesman Pro™ Tool Station Backpack has 21 pockets for carrying tools of any size, but is still compact enough to meet TSA requirements for carry-on luggage.

From the type of cutting edge to the handle design, there is a lot to consider when choosing the tool that is best-suited for the job at hand. Another important distinction includes whether the knife blades are shear cut or pinch cut. This difference in cutting capability largely affects the tool’s intended purpose and the materials it can successfully cut through. To help spread a greater understanding, here’s a closer look at where and how professionals can specifically use shear cut and pinch cut wire strippers.

Shear cut wire strippers feature two cutting knives that slide past each other when cutting, commonly recognized as stamped wire strippers. This design is intended for completing clean cuts with less force on copper or aluminum wire when compared to pinch cut, which is perfect for use when responding to typical residential calls.

Klein Tools remembers the excitement of the first-ever Skills USA National Signing Day. On May 8, 2019, roughly 3,000 high school seniors were recognized for their commitment to pursuing a career in the skilled trades. Of the students honored, Ethan Harrison was the first to sign his letter of intent at Silicon Valley Career Technical Education in San Jose, California.

Since then, Ethan has had the opportunity of a lifetime, representing the United States in Cabinetmaking at the WorldSkills Competition in Kazan, Russia. The four-day competition challenges the best aspiring professionals in the world to compete in more than 50 different trade skills. Ethan was one of 22 SkillsUSA members on the WorldSkillsUSA team.
